Copy, download, and print answers

Blue J makes it easy to share your research and continue working in other applications.

You can copy or print an entire answer, download tables to Excel, or save sources as PDFs.

Copy an answer

To copy a question and its response:

  1. Locate the icons below the response.
  2. Click the Copy icon.

This copies the following to your clipboard:

  • Your question
  • Blue J's response
  • Source names and links

You can then paste the content into:

  • Microsoft Word
  • Email
  • Notes
  • Other documents

Paste without formatting

If you'd like the pasted content to match the formatting of your destination document:

  • Windows: Press Ctrl + Shift + V
  • Mac: Press Command + Shift + V

This removes most formatting and applies the style of the destination document.

Download or copy tables

If Blue J generates a table as part of its response, you can easily export it for use in Excel or Google Sheets.

Each table includes two export options:

Download as Excel

Click Download to save the table as an .xlsx file.

The file opens directly in Microsoft Excel and preserves the table structure.

Copy a table

Click the copy icon to copy the table to your clipboard.

When pasted into:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Google Sheets

the data will automatically be separated into rows and columns.

Note: If you paste into a plain text editor, the copied data will appear as tab-separated text.

Print or save an answer as a PDF

To print an answer or save it as a PDF:

  1. Locate the icons below the response.
  2. Click Print.
  3. Choose your printer or select Save as PDF.

This is useful for sharing or keeping a copy of your research.

Download or print a source

To print or save an individual source:

  1. Open the source.
  2. Click the Print icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Choose to print or save the document as a PDF.

Troubleshooting printing

If you're unable to print from Blue J, a browser extension may be interfering with the print dialog.

Google Chrome

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Extensions.
  3. Select Manage Extensions.
  4. Locate the extension you want to disable.
  5. Toggle the extension Off.
  6. Try printing again.

You can re-enable the extension at any time by toggling it back on.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the menu (three horizontal lines).
  2. Select Add-ons and themes.
  3. Choose Extensions.
  4. Locate the extension you want to disable.
  5. Toggle the extension Off.
  6. Restart Firefox if prompted.
  7. Try printing again.

You can re-enable the extension later by returning to the Extensions page.
