How to Find Older Threads in Ask Blue J

You can locate older threads in Blue J by browsing and searching within your conversation history. While full search across all thread content is not currently available, the steps below will help you find past conversations more efficiently.

Note: Only the most recent 100 threads are visible in the interface.

How to Find Older Threads

Step 1: Expand Older Conversations

  1. In the left-hand panel, scroll to the sections:
    • Older than a week
    • Older than a month
  2. Click each section to expand it so all thread titles are visible.

Step 2: Search Using Your Browser

  1. Use your browser’s search function:
    • Windows: Press Ctrl + F
    • Mac: Press Command + F
  2. Enter a keyword related to the thread you are looking for, such as a topic, client name, or issue.

What to Expect

  • This method searches thread titles only, not the full content within threads.
  • It works best when thread titles include clear or specific terms.
  • It can help you quickly locate recent or well-named conversations.

Tips for Finding Threads More Easily

  • Try multiple keywords if your first search does not return results.
  • Use specific terms such as:
    • Client names
    • Tax topics
    • Key issues or concepts
  • Expand all available sections before searching for the best results.

Why a Thread Might Be Hard to Find

  • The title does not include the keyword you are searching for.
  • The thread is in a collapsed section.
  • The title is too general to match your search.

In these cases, you may need to manually browse older sections.

Best Practices for Naming Threads

Clear thread titles make it much easier to find your work later.

When starting a new thread, try to:

  • Include the main topic or issue
  • Add specific details such as jurisdiction, rule, or client name if appropriate
  • Avoid generic titles like “Question” or “Research”

Examples:

  • Instead of: “Asset acquisition”
    Use: “Asset acquisition – purchase price allocation rules”
  • Instead of: “Client question”
